Introduction

These Terms of Service explain how families, organizers, and invited relatives may use Family Legacy. Family Legacy provides private family workspaces for preserving family trees, member profiles, memories, photos, documents, calendar events, timeline items, announcements, invitations, and related family content.

By creating an account or using Family Legacy, you agree to use the product responsibly and only in ways that respect your relatives, your family history, and applicable laws.

Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding agreement in your location to create an account. If you use Family Legacy on behalf of a family, reunion committee, cultural group, or organization, you confirm that you have permission to manage that workspace and invite others.

Family Legacy is intended for family-friendly use. Children should use the service only with appropriate parent or guardian involvement.

Creating an account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Family Legacy supports email and password sign-in, Google sign-in, password reset, session persistence, and email verification.

You agree to provide accurate account information and to notify us if you believe your account or family workspace has been accessed without permission.

Family workspaces

Each family workspace is designed to keep one family's information separate from other families. Users may belong to multiple family workspaces and switch between them without creating separate accounts.

Workspace owners and admins are responsible for deciding who should be invited, what information should be added, and whether sensitive records belong in the workspace.

Invitations

Family Legacy supports invite links and email/SMS-ready invitation messages. Invite links are intended for the invited person and should not be shared publicly unless you want additional people to request or gain access.

Public invite pages show limited invite-safe information. Private family data should remain available only to authenticated users with an active family membership.

Member profiles

Member profiles may include names, photos, birthdays, birthplaces, locations, occupations, biographies, relationship details, contact fields, and optional social links.

Only add information that you have permission to share. Use extra care with living people, children, contact information, private stories, health information, and sensitive family circumstances.

Digital Vault

The Digital Vault is designed for private family documents such as certificates, letters, recipes, records, and other important files. Vault files should be treated as sensitive.

Do not upload illegal documents, documents you do not have permission to store, or documents that would put another person at risk if shared.

Timeline

Timeline items help families preserve births, marriages, graduations, migrations, achievements, memorials, reunions, and custom memories.

Because timelines can describe real people and sensitive family events, users should write with care, accuracy, and respect.

AI Tools

Family Legacy currently includes beta AI-assisted drafting experiences for testing biography, timeline, and relationship workflows. These tools do not call paid AI services today.

Future AI features may assist with biographies, timeline summaries, relationship discovery, storybooks, photo restoration workflows, and voice memory transcription. Users remain responsible for reviewing and correcting any AI-assisted content.

Subscriptions

Family Legacy includes pricing and billing foundation screens for Free, Plus, and Heritage plans. Real payment processing is not active yet.

When paid subscriptions are introduced, plan limits, billing cadence, cancellation rules, refunds, and payment provider terms will be presented clearly before purchase.

User responsibilities

You are responsible for the content you add, the people you invite, and the way you manage your family workspace.

You agree not to misuse Family Legacy, attempt unauthorized access, upload illegal content, harass others, impersonate relatives, violate intellectual property rights, or interfere with the security or reliability of the service.

Content ownership

You and your family retain ownership of the stories, photos, videos, documents, and other content you upload. Family Legacy does not claim ownership of your family history.

You grant Family Legacy the limited permission needed to store, process, display, back up, and transmit your content so the product can function.

Acceptable behavior

Family Legacy should be used to preserve family history, not to harm people. Respectful disagreement may happen in families, but harassment, threats, doxxing, hate content, or abuse are not allowed.

Additional rules are described in the Acceptable Use Policy and Community Guidelines.

Termination

You may stop using Family Legacy at any time. Workspace owners may remove members from a family workspace when appropriate.

We may suspend or terminate access if an account creates risk, violates these terms, violates the law, or threatens the security of other users or family workspaces.

Disclaimers

Family Legacy is provided as a family history and memory preservation product. It is not legal, medical, financial, genealogical, or archival advice.

We work to provide a reliable and secure product, but no online service can guarantee uninterrupted access, perfect accuracy, or permanent preservation in every circumstance.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Family Legacy will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost data, lost profits, or emotional distress resulting from use of the service.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so these limits may not apply to every user.

Changes to terms

We may update these terms as Family Legacy grows. When changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users through the product, website, or email.

Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
